Monet’s Cathedral #2

Rouen – August 2005

Until September 17th, Rouen’s cathedral is illuminated with images inspired from Monet’s cathedral paintings. I was in Rouen one week ago and had the chance to see – and photograph – the show, which is fascinating.

There wasn’t enough room in front of the cathedral to avoid the distortion which is quite evident in the pictures. I wanted to try LensFix on them but I haven’t found the time to do it yet. Perhaps for tomorrow’s post.

At first I thought you had been experimenting with blending modes :-) Now that’s a lotta lumens!! Talk about needing a BRIGHT projector for the job…

Yesterday’s capture is just brilliant - today is a bit more subtle and we can see some of the illusion revealed with the inclusion of the display at bottom right.

Where yesterday’s was more garish and in your face this one looks much more stately. I think I prefer this one because the colours complement the detail of the church rather than being overpowering.
I wouldn’t correct these. The distortion makes it more obvious that you are looking up at a grand building and that intensifies the effect.
