Black Night

Versailles, last week

This shot was taken a few minutes before the Orange Night one. I thought black and white would be appropriate this time.

interesting old buildings, but the two street lights (?) on the left are a bit distracting.

I agree with the black and white choice, it works quite well for this shot. and I don’t agree with the comment about the street lights as they balance the darkness of the building and add to the visible lonliness of the street. very nice!

I think the shot works better with the lights too. Very nice image!

Great shot…the contrast is really beautiful.

Yes, the black and white is quite nice. And, in fact, the streetlights are what draws me to this photo. I realize that the glow on the cars comes from that light source, which creates a wonderful night feel. The contrast and the tones are perfect.

Actually, my feeling is with those who find the street lights distracting. I don’t think I’d mind them if they weren’t so big, but as they are, they really draw my eye. I personally would like this photo without them because the bright shine on all of the car implies the presence of the lights. Unfortunately, if you were to crop them off, you’d lose some of the perspective in this shot, and I think that really works here.

Anyway, I *love* the darkness here. It works incredibly well.
