Versailles – Last weekend
A few hours ago I retrieved prints of some shots I took during the past few weeks with a borrowed film SLR camera (a Canon EOS 1000F). I’m really impressed by the difference between these prints and the ones of other shots taken with my digital point-and-shoot. Although I almost don’t know how to operate the SLR, most of the photos are crisp with a good color balance and, for some pictures, I’m quite proud of how I (involuntarily) managed to get an interesting depth of field.
I think I’ll keep on shooting from times to times with the SLR now that I understand a bit more of the technique behind it, although this probably won’t help me turn down my desire for a digital SLR…
Now all I have to do is get a good scanner and satisfy my tremendous ego by publishing my film shots on Urban Zebra. Any advice regarding the scanner market?

Just lovely. Careful now, your new found enthusiasm for film may well lead you to a rangefinder Leica. An expensive experience, certainly, but one guaranteed to last as long as film is made. This picture was very well pre-visualized.

Don’t know what brands/models are good these days, but negative scanners would give you a higher quality image than regular scanners that scan the print.

Haha, now that you have had a taste of what you can do with depth of field on an SLR, it is only a matter of time before you get that 300D.

WOW. I love this so much, you have no idea. It’s stunning. Shadows are my favorite subject and this one is perfectly captured.
