Olympic Colors

Somewhere along the Seine, a few days ago

This handheld shot would have been impossible with my Pentax. The 350D allows me to select the ISO sensibility (800 here, should probably have been 1600) and to get correct night scene shots. Of course a tripod would have helped; I also want to try with smaller apertures to see what’s best. To be continued…

Very nice night scene. The colored lights add to the effect. It rather reminds me of the night scene in the movie ‘Charade’ when Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn are on a river cruise having dinner and the boat shines its spotlight on lovers along the banks of the river!

The coloured lights really make this photo. Having an SLR really opens up the options available to you, like this shot for example. 1600 can be pretty noisy so I think you were better of with 800.

Not sure on the cost over there for you but the Canon 50mm 1.8 is a very cheap prime here (about $75) and is great for portraits. It can also be used for night shots like this too with the low aperture.
