The Ladle and Me

f/5.0, 1/2 sec

I’m experimenting with the ‘utensils’ theme previously explored by the Baltimore Gang of Four (Chiaroscuro, Luminouslens, ViSuaLLyMiNDeD, and Visual Field). It’s funny how everyday objects can turn into strange subjects once photographed.

This shot was taken in my “studio” which can be summed up as what we French call an american bar (an open wall between the kitchen and the living room) and that can be guessed in the shot (although it might not be easy if you aren’t acquainted with the undistorted geometry of my flat (in which case you already know what my american bar looks like and there’s no point in trying to explain it to you)). I’m learning quite a few things in the process; in particular I become more comfortable with lighting and balancing exposure time and aperture.

Very whimsical shot. I like how metal looks against the white. Also, thanks for explaining what an “american bar” is. :)

That’s a fun shot.

It actually reminded of the flying spheres in Phantasm II, but that probably wasn’t the result you were looking for. ;)

I like your way of thinking - I have something similar of a christmas tree decoration. (Only I used a much longer zoom, so the camera wasnt reflected)
tricky shot nicely done.

I was just checking out your new site. (VERY nice, btw!) How funny that when I clicked on “Random”, this is the page that showed up!

luminouslens: Yes, these Baltimore-inspired “experiments” were fun to do… And thanks for the nice words!
