Update: As suggested by Visual Field, here’s a new version with half of the sky cropped out. To me it is indeed better than the first version. What do you think?
Update #2: As suggested by Simon and ViSuaLLyMiNDeD, here’s a third version with a 16:9 crop that removes half of the sky and the muddy grass. What do you think?

Very pretty image. I might consider cropping out some of the sky; to me, the shot is about the water receding from the foreground into the distance, and cropping out about half of the sky would focus attention more on the water.

One of the things I always am aware of is the sky. Main rule - if the sky is not interesting then minimize it or eliminate it from the shot. Eliminating would not be reasonable in this shot, but minimizing it definitely is an improvement.

Both good shots but I’ll pick the original. 
In the new crop I find the muddy grass a bit distracting from the overall scene, and to me the original crop just has more depth. My eyes have an easier time moving forward through the composition. I also think the slightly darker colour in the first shot is more attractive.

I do like the cropped version more - it feels more expansive to me. The width of the image might be part of it, even though we’re actually seeing less, it feels like we’re seeing more. I do like the crop at the bottom of the image in the first one though. The stones are a nice foreground, but the grass less so.

I agree, image looks better with the crop. It’s funny how something can make a difference like that but it really pull you in more.

The improvements, although subtle, make the world of difference. Like a fine meal, the very small things often make all the difference.

I get to come in late and look at all three versions, but I think the original still looks the best, and I like the middle one the least. True the last version really emphasises the calm stillness of the water, but the additional sky in the orig gives it a greater sense of depth.
