You’ve got some great straight lines here in this wide shot with the 17-40L - are you using something for correcting barrel and pincushion during post?

Turfdigger: I’ve had no need to correct distortion for this photo. As far as I can tell, the small sensor of the 350D might be clipping the distortion that would be visible when the 17-40 lens is used at its shortest focal length on a full-frame camera. Is it something you suffer from on your 5D?
